Avoiding the Post-Visit Meltdown
Long distance relationships are full of highs and lows. Everyone knows that when a visit is coming up you so excited and you can’t wait. Then the visit starts and you are happy but you can’t help but think about how you are eventually going to have to leave. Then it’s time to leave. You either cry or you want to cry; and once you get back home it takes a few days before you start acting normal again.
Personally I found the whole process to be somewhat emotionally damaging especially as time progressed. But here are some tips that might be helpful with coping.
- Leave & Take- Leave something of yours for your sweetie to have. Preferably something that smells like you. Take something of theirs (with permission of course) so that you’ll have an item as well.
- Sneak a note. Leave a note somewhere that reminds them of your love and how much of a wonderful time you had. Make sure you leave it in a place where they won’t find it until after you are gone. If you are receiving the visit then tuck a note away in their luggage or purse.
- Call them as soon as you get home; not only to ensure your partner of your safety; but it also helps to hear their voice when you are feeling down.
Those are my tips. Any other suggestions are welcome.
