Less Obvious Ways To Meet People Online
Does online dating really work?
Of course it does, but I think that some methods are better than others.
I’ve never tried the Match or eHarmony route because it just seemed too forced. You setup a profile and wait, wait, respond to some profiles you like, wait, wait, wait…maybe you’ll get a date, maybe you won’t. Maybe the person is looking for a relationship, or maybe they are just wanting a weekend bang.
(See: 5 Stages of Online Dating which chronicles one mans unsuccessful attempts at setting up dating profiles)
I prefer the less forced approach. Back when I was in the market I’d end up talking with people from sites that weren’t intended to be dating sites. I didn’t sign up with that goal in mind, but what ended up happening was that through “interacting” with people on a regular basis we became friends. One of these friends resulted in a two year relationship (not long distance) and the other is now my best friend. I also have a few other friends that I’ve met from sites like that.
So when the traditional ways of online dating aren’t working for you, get involved in a community. You might be surprised with the results.

I agree with what you said. Sometimes dating sites became a place full of cheaters and lairs. Being a community might end up become friendship and create interest for each other.
It’s a great place to start an honest and genuine relationship.
