Moving In Together, But We Haven’t Met
I’m Depressed About My Relationship

Eight Years Later, It’s Not Any Easier

Posted by LD Diva on December 11th, 2007

Q: Hi Diva. I need some words of encouragement. I am kind of sad today because I’m with my boyfriend but he is going to be leaving in a few days. I’ve been going through this for 8 years and it hasn’t gotten easier. The longer we do this, the harder it gets. I love him and we are having fun together but I am so sad right now. Any words of encouragement would help.

A: WOW. That is a long time to be in a long distance relationship, no wonder you are sad. One of the only things that makes it so much easier is having an end date in sight. I don’t know how old you are, what your life plans are, or what’s going on with that; but one of the biggest factors in relieving some of the sadness is having it in your mind when you will be together. If there’s no light at the end of the tunnel then you’ll drive yourself crazy. So sit down and talk about it with your partner. What is it going to take for the two of you to be in the same place?

While that is going on, take a look at the advice I gave on making goodbyes a little easier.

I wish you the best!

Eight years… I’m surprised he hasn’t asked you to marry him yet.

Maybe he will, or maybe he won’t. That would be an interesting and useful discussion to have though.
