We Broke Up, Can We Be Friends?

Posted by LD Diva on February 22nd, 2008

Q: I was in a long distance relationship but we just broke up. I was wondering if you think it’s a good idea to try and be friends?

A: I used to be one of those people who would try the “lets be friends” thing until a good friend told me, “an ex is an ex for a reason.” That stuck with me.

Now I am a big fan of leaving the past in the past. What’s the point of trying to be friends? You are only going to carry around all the hurt, anger, and bad feelings from the breakup. Neither one of you can move on if you are still dragging around old baggage.

The history will always be there and trying to ignore it is like ignoring a big pink elephant in the room that’s tap dancing on top of your dresser. If you need friends, I’m sure you can find better options.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that you can be close friends with your ex: check out: http://sophiasparx.blogspot.com

i just recently broke up with my long distance boyfriend. we shared a lot and he wants to be friends. not sure i want to be friends considering how he treated me the last 2-3 months of our relationship. some people can be friends with their ex while others can’t be. it just depends on the people and how they are able to control and/or get over their feelings from their relationship.
