When Someone Doesn’t Understand Your Relationship
Q: Why is it that some people don’t understand that a long distance relationship is really a relationship? It’s like they don’t take it seriously and I am so annoyed. For example if I tell someone I have a boyfriend then they’ll ask about him and when they find out it’s long distance they’ll tell me it doesn’t matter if I cheat. What the heck?!?! Maybe I am just venting, I am not even sure if I’ve asked you a real question.
A: As you live your life you’ll find that people don’t understand a lot of things; mainly things that are outside of what’s seen as “normal.” I could give you tons of examples, but the main thing you have to learn how to do is drown out the noise.
If I listened to people I would have found someone local (or I’d still be single), I’d be working a job that I probably hated (instead of running my own business), and I definitely would not be married.
At the end of the day you have to do what’s best for you. Don’t be bull-headed, take advice sometimes and think about it for yourself, but at the same time consider the situation and the source.
If someone doesn’t understand that you can be in a loving and commited relationship and not see the person daily, then that’s on them.
