Transitioning From a LDR

Posted by LD Diva on April 19th, 2009

Q: How do you get used to transitioning from a LDR to a local relationship?

A: Just relax. It’s normal to feel a little awkward or shy but you just have to relax and be yourself. Take it slowly if you have to. Don’t feel like you immediately have to hug and kiss this person if you haven’t seen them in 6 months. Sometimes it takes time to warm up.

Understand that some people can pick up right where you left off while others do need a bit of time to get used to things again. Don’t be offended if your partner behaves in a way that is opposite to how you are behaving.

Plan on spending a day sitting and talking. Go out on dates. Just get to “know” each other again.

Also sit and talk about expectations. What is expected from this relationship? How serious are you? How much time do you think you will be spending together?

Overall as cliché as it is, communication is key.
